The European standard EN 62262, the equivalent of international standard IEC 62262 (2002), relates to IK ratings. This is an international numeric classification for the degrees of protection provided by enclosures for electrical equipment against external mechanical impacts. It provides a means of specifying the capacity of an enclosure to protect its contents from external impacts. IK10 classification is the highest vandal resistance rating with an impact energy of 20 joules applied repeatedly to the GRP enclosure.
EN62262 (IK10) standard specifies the way enclosures should be mounted when tests are carried out, the atmospheric conditions that should prevail, the number of impacts and their even distribution, with the size, style, material, dimensions etc. of the various types of hammer designed to produce the energy levels required. The GRP enclosure undergoes 5 repeated impacts from a pendulum and free fall hammer delivering 20 joules each time. After each impact, the GRP enclosure is physically inspected to verify structural integrity and non-breach.
The GRP enclosure is shipped and type tested in the United Kingdom at a independent testing laboratory to certify our products for vandal resistance. BS EN62262 and IK Code 10 is the British Standard produced by BSI Group and is the common standard adhered to in the GCC region, United Kingdom and Europe. The BSI Group produces British Standards under the authority of the Royal Charter in the United Kingdom, which states that one of BSI’s objectives is to create standards of quality for goods and services.
