Protected against a solid object greater
than 50mm, such as a hand
The IP Rating, International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard 60529,
classifies and rates the degree of protection provided against intrusion (body parts
such as hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact, and water by mechanical casings
and electrical enclosures. The equivalent British standard is EN 60529 and it is the
common standard adhered to in the GCC region, United Kingdom and Europe.
IP ratings are represented by combining the first and second digits of the following columns. See the example below.

Protected against a solid object greater
than 50mm, such as a hand
Protected against a solid object greater
than 12.5mm, such as a hand
Protected against a solid object greater
than 2.5mm, such as a wire
Protected against a solid object greater
than 1.0mm, such as a thin strap
Prevents ingress of dust sufficient to cause harm
No ingress of dust
Degree of protection against water
Protected against water drops
Protected against water drops at a 15 degree angle
Protected against water spray at 60 degree angle
